METHOD/ART
ARIA Research seminar
17-18 March 2021
initiated by Adilia Yip, Vivi Touloumidi and Umut Eldem
Since its inception in 2019, METHOD/ART seminar aims at bringing artistic researchers across different disciplines to discuss their methodologies and exchange approaches on conducting artistic research. Anchored around a main enquiry topic, each edition sets the ground of debate during two days of presentations by four invited keynote speakers and ten presenters selected via an open call. The event is part of the ARIA seminar series in Antwerp.
The 3rd edition of METHOD/ART seminar, 17-18 March 2021, will focus on artistic research methodologies which incorporate history as a core component. In the process of developing discourses about the past, present and future, history can be a point of departure and a means to re-interpreting phenomena. Researchers working in diverse artistic media will share their methods and concerns on several criteria, such as distilling meaning from the past, drawing attention to the overlooked, unlearning old beliefs and existing biases, and proposing new concepts and angles for the future. Furthermore, the seminar aims at providing a space for listening to each other’s practices by sharing artistic processes and strategies of implementation as also at identifying shared common grounds in artistic creation and articulation.
