Art & Ecology Reading Group: Feminism & Ecology

The Art & Ecology research group at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts is happy to invite you to the second meeting of the newly created Art & Ecology Reading Group. Our next gathering will take place on Wednesday, December 4, from 5 till 7 pm. We will come together at our Eco Lab at the second floor - space K 2.8.

The Art & Ecology Reading Group gathers monthly at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. Each meeting, we will read and discuss relevant and urgent selected articles within the field of enquiry of the Art & Ecology research group. The group welcomes everyone - researchers, staff, students, alumni or otherwise - who wishes to participate.

During our next meeting on December 4, we'll discuss the third chapter (‘Ecofeminist Thought’) of Mary Mellor's publication Feminism & Ecology, pp. 44-70, which was first published by Polity Press in Cambridge in 1997. Please find a scan of this chapter here. Please make sure to carefully read this chapter prior to the meeting; to underline the parts which you'll find most meaningful or will need further explanation or debate; and to make notes of anything you may find relevant to discuss during our meeting. We realize that - like the texts by Lynn Margulis which we read in the first meeting - it may not be an easy read again. The chapter is quite dense (especially in terms of the history of the ecofeminist movement) and only gets easier once you're a bit in it. So please take sufficient time and don't give up!

This will be the final session of the reading group in 2024. A subsequent session of the Reading Group is scheduled on Wednesday, January 15 - also at 5 pm.

Warm regards,
Eva-Fiore Kovacovsky, Sina Hensel and Roel Arkesteijn
