Studium Generale's annual theme for the academic year of 24-25 is 'hidden networks'
On Wednesday, the 11th of December, we welcome:
- Speaker: Lies Mertens
- Lecture: Combining Innovative Projects and Materials in Entrepreneurship
Lies Mertens is a Belgian bag designer that creates pieces that combine practical functionalities and elegance. Always with a focus on quality materials and craftsmanship. Each bag is named after the person who inspired the design. Besides that she runs Patina, a guesthouse and gallery that blends hospitality, design and creativity. Patina’s interior has been created by using existing materials and reusing/reworking them. The artworks hanging in Patina are all from artists that have been featured in the gallery.
Selecting the right materials is crucial, as their softness and structure directly affects the result, no matter the project. However, this process involves finding partners who share a similar mentality, fostering mutual learning and growth. This talk provides insight into the strategic choices and practices of her own learnings and serves as inspiration for other.
