Dr. Ludwig Albert, internationally acclaimed and awarded as pedagogue and one of today’s leading marimba virtuosi, belongs throughout the world with the absolute top flight. He distinguishes himself by his unique combination as a composer, performer and educator. He received the honour as first European marimbist of the production of his signature concert marimba by Adams Instruments (NL) and his signature mallet line by Innovative Percussion (US). He established since 2004, under impulse of Ms. Pascale de Grootte, the European creation of a marimba Master department at the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp and the LUCA University Leuven, driven by his renowned innovative Method “the Ultimate Sound”. Alumni obtained over 75 winning Prizes at leading Competitions and positions abroad as Professor and orchestra member. He’s founder and artistic director of several international festivals and competitions such as the prestigious Universal Marimba Competition Belgium and the International Percussion Competition in Jeju South-Korea. He performed worldwide concerts and conducted masterclasses, touring regularly in more than 35 countries, and released 15 label albums with mainly own works, improvisations and arrangements.
He’s presented as visiting professor at several renowned universities and as jury member at leading competitions. He received in the US the ‘Best Classical Music Award 2020’ for his double concerto “The Universe” and in 2021 for his solo composition “Feel the Sunlight”. He also received the ‘Artist of the Year Award 2020’ and the ‘Rising Star Award 2021’. In addition he received twice the Classical Chart Award 2021’ hitting for an impressive period with “Feel the Sunlight” the #1 ranking position on the classical charts. He completed in 2021, together with the Portuguese composer Rodrigo Marques, the new Concerto “Permafrost” for marimba & Symphony orchestra which is handled as set piece of several Competitions. His compositions, commissioned- and dedicated works belongs with the standard repertoire and are published with European leading publishers from Netherlands, Belgium, France and Switzerland. Reviewed and praised by Major international press and music critics for his unique style, his rare outstanding lyrical sound and his play with 8 mallets, he will celebrate worldwide from 2022 his 30 years career anniversary with new CD releases, an international jubilee concert- and masterclass tour and the release of the new Adams signature Ludwig Albert marimba model.
