Awards for three alumni at Belgian Fashion Awards

At the second Belgian Fashion Awards three of our fashion alumni received an award.

The Jury Prize was awarded to Martin Margiela, renowned Belgian designer who graduated in 1979. The jury claimed that "the impact Margiela has had on the history of fashion is more evident than ever, as well as on the current fashion world, and the future of fashion."

Charline Tyberghein wins jury prize Masters Salon Painting 2018

Alumna Charline Tyberghein received the jury prize at the KoMASK Masters Salon Painting 2018. Tyberghein graduated in 2018, and is one of the 41 European masters in painting whose work was part of this exhibition. The international jury chose her work from this collection, and consequently named her the best European master in painting of 2018.

An honorable mention was given to another alumna, Jorinde Krosenbrink. Alumnus Sculpture Leendert Van Accoleyen received the Marc MAcken Award for Sculpture on the same night.

Alexey Shlyk wins Unseen Talent Award Audience Prize

Alexey Shlyk, photography alumnus, has won the ING Unseen Talent Audience Prize and will receive a commission to create new work for the ING Collection. Mentored by internationally acclaimed multidisciplinary artist Isaac Julien, the winners spent the past two months in an extensive coaching course, creating new work for the ING Collection related to this year’s theme: New Horizons: Exploring the promise and perils of the future. The resulting work of the winners and all competing artists is on display this weekend during Unseen Amsterdam 2018.

Brandon Wen wins Challenge the Fabric Award

Our fashion student Brandon Wen has been awarded 30 000 Euros and the prestigious Challenge The Fabric Award on the opening day of London Fashion Week. The award has been given out for the first time to reward outstanding creativity and excellent exploration of the fabric viscose, a biomaterial processed from wood.

Rushemy Botter new creative director for Nina Ricci

Alumnus Rushemy Botter and his partner Lisi Herrebrugh are the new creative directors for Nina Ricci. The Dutch designer duo will present their first creations for the French fashion brand this year. Their first full collection will be their designs at the Paris Fall 2019 shows in March.

Botter studied Fashion at the Academy up until two years ago. Together with Herrebrugh he has been running the Botter brand, which sheds some light on contemporary issues. In 2018 they won the Grand Prix at the Hyères festival for their collection 'Fish or Fight'.
