Bachelor and Master in Visual Arts

Bachelor Dance

As a student dance artist, you can immerse yourself in your artistic practice. You will develop technical, creative, performative and reflective skills, and be guided by passionate teachers and performing artists representing the diversity of contemporary dance. The Dance programme of the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp is a creative environment where you will be inspired to define your own identity and to shape the future working field as an embodied dance artist.

Bachelor of Education specialisation Dance

In the Bachelor of Education, specialisation Dance you will develop into an authentic, inspiring and versatile Teaching Artist.   

Brass Instruments

Brass forms an inherent part of our musical landscape, and it is difficult to imagine a symphony orchestra, brass band, or wind orchestra without a good brass section. Brass players are well-represented elsewhere, too, in a legion of other professional contexts: in brass ensembles, chamber music, musical theatre, and in the teaching of professionals and amateurs. The Bass trajectory of the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp (a trajectory of the specialization Instrument / vocal studies) is therefore focused on providing the student with broad skills, so that he or she can enter the professional world at a later stage in an independent and flexible manner, whether or not within the traditional orchestral framework.

Composition

Composing is creating, exploring and developing your own musical language. Central to this creative process is your unique personality, which, through knowledge, craftsmanship, insight and an open, inquisitive mind, is able to shape your creativity and originality into new music. In doing so, attention is paid to constantly changing social structures, diversity and inclusion.

Conducting

The Royal Conservatoire Antwerp offers tomorrow’s conductors a two-year specialization which further builds on the skills acquired during the Bachelor or Master of Music course. Conducting is a highly demanding discipline which requires very specific competencies: a thorough knowledge of the repertoire, knowledge of complex scores, an excellent ear, sophisticated communication skills, a perfect conducting technique and vital stage presence. The conducting course teaches you the rehearsal techniques, and the analytical and substantive artistic skills to create a considered interpretation and appropriate performance plan, and to put these into effect.

Costume Design

In recent years theatre, performance, dance, opera and film have merged into artistic hybrid forms in which different disciplines from the performing arts work together.

Drama & Education

Drama

Over the years, the Drama programme has proven to be of substantial influence on the international performing arts, both through its alumni and faculty. However, the use of the Dutch language makes the curriculum less accessible to students from outside Flanders or the Netherlands.

Fashion

Fashion reflects social, societal, cultural, artistic and aesthetic ideas. It occupies a prominent position in our culture and economy, defines a period and can be both controversial and revolutionary. In this sense, a fashion designer can put a personal stamp on the times.

Fine Arts - In Situ

Fine Arts - Painting

Fine Arts - Printmaking and Drawing

In these times of digital dominance in a rapidly changing world, many artists return to the slowness of the creative (re)production process and drawing. Unlike purely digital media, printmaking adds a challenging material component. Printmaking and Drawing explores and connects both worlds.

Sculpture

Sculpture is an ancient artistic discipline, highly subject to changing notions of beauty. Influenced by social and technological developments, the solid medium of sculpture is taking on increasingly fluid shapes.

Graphic design

Graphic design is so intertwined with the world around us that we often no longer see that just about everything in our surroundings was designed by someone. This makes Graphic Design a very versatile practice, primarily concerned with the transmission, organisation and communication of (visual and textual) language.

Jazz

Students who enter the Jazz specialization at the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp can expect to graduate as excellent musicians who are ready to take their place in the international professional scene. The training and coaching you will receive is highly practical and customized to your individual needs and interests. From day one, the study programme will immerse you in international professional practice, with an emphasis on the development of your own artistic personality, the acquisition of expertise, and the engagement of your sense of entrepreneurship.

Jewellery design & gold- and silversmithing

The human need for ornament is universal and timeless. Jewellery and wearable objects tell a story about the status, style and culture of the beholder.

Keyboard instruments

The Department of Keyboard Instruments creates an inspiring learning biotope for young keyboard artists, in which tradition and innovation go hand in hand. The development of each student's individual professional profile is the main focus and is supported by a technical mastery of the instrument, knowledge of the repertoire, creative skills and a healthy work ethic. 

Master in Dance

Are you an artist and have you worked in the field of dance? Is embodied practice essential in your work? Do you wish to devote time to a set of concers and questions to deepen your artistic practice? Do you wish to gain new inputs, tools, and insights to expand your perspectives? The Master in Dance offers you the opportunity to carry out practice-oriented research, based on and guided by embodied artistic practices.

Music and Performing Arts & Education

Percussion

Over the last 20 years, the professional percussion world has witnessed a spectacular (r)evolution. The repertoire and the new, contemporary techniques have been fundamentally changed, and professionals are now expected to be multifunctional; from playing in a baroque orchestra to a contemporary ensemble, from a session musician to improvising, from performing as a soloist to being a dedicated teacher. In response to this, the percussion tracetory of the specialization Instrument / vocal studies has developed into a highly-motivated department.

Photography

Today everyone with a smartphone seems to be a photographer. But is that really the case? Photography is a rapidly changing medium with a direct relationship to the changing society. A photographer looks at the world and works with what reality has to offer. The Photography programme at the Academy trains the image makers of tomorrow by familiarising them with the technical, conceptual and aesthetic aspects of the medium.

Plucked instruments

With its strong teaching tradition, the Plucked instruments trajectory (of the specialization Instrument / vocal studies) of the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp provides an inspiring learning environment for young guitarists and harpists, with technical mastery, individuality, and understanding of historical and contemporary performance practice at the core of the programme.

Postgraduate Suzuki

The Royal Conservatoire Antwerp is the only academic institution in Europe to offer a postgraduate Suzuki degree.

String instruments

Founded on a strong historical tradition within the Conservatoire, the String trajectory (of the specialization Instrument / vocal studies) provides an ambitious and inspiring environment for young, motivated violinists, violists, cellists, and double-bass players and also hosts the only Postgraduate Suzuki in Europe.

Vocal studies

Each year the Vocal trajectory (specialization Instrument / vocal studies) offered by the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp attracts a large number of students who come from across the whole world to use the teaching given by the Conservatoire’s solid team of internationally-renowned singing experts to advance their skills and to shape them into professional artists at the very highest level.

Woodwind instruments

Woodwinds play an indispensable role in symphony orchestras, chamber music ensembles, and wind orchestras. The Woodwind trajectory at the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp (a trajectory of the specialization Instrument / vocal studies) is therefore heavily focused on traditional orchestral and ensemble training, led by an experienced staff of teachers who also occupy important solo positions in the national and international orchestral and chamber music world.
