Bendt Eyckermans graduated in 2016 as a painter from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp. He was born with artist blood, as a grandson and son of sculptors Lode and Barthold Eyckermans. That history is tangible in the studio, where I met him one Monday morning at a not-so-early hour. In here we are surrounded by sculptures and paintings, scattered here and there and all with their own history and story.
The focus of our conversation is not only on his career as a painter, but especially on his love for movies and how this passion has always influenced his life and work. Bendt was recently asked to be a jury member for the International Short Film category of Film Fest Gent, the most important film festival in Belgium that, according to annual tradition, took place in September 2022. It is in the context of that task, which he accomplished with great enthusiasm, that I sat down with him for an in-depth conversation.
I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed the conversation itself. Only one way to find out!
