If you meet all conditions, and have followed the necessary procedures where necessary, you can start your full enrolment at the Academy.

You need to make sure the following things are in order.

  • Documents

    In order to enrol in a bachelor or master programme at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp you need to submit the following documents:

    • a copy of your ID card/passport;
    • a copy of your diploma (check the Diploma conditions for the diploma's needed to enrol in the bachelor or master programme);
    • if your diploma was obtained outside the European Union (EU) you also need to submit:
       
      • a legalised copy of your diploma (apostille) and
      • a declaration from the embassy or consulate of your country stating that your diploma grants access to a bachelor programme in the country in which it was obtained (unless the diploma itself contains such declaration);
    • if your diploma is written in a language other than English, French, German or Dutch you also need to submit a legalized Dutch translation of your diploma, issued by a sworn translator. Transcripts must include a complete description of the institutional grading system or other standards of evaluation with maximum grades and minimum marks indicated.
       
    • for Chinese candidate students with a Chinese diploma: an APS certificate;
    • for candidate students from outside the EU: a copy of your D visa (long-term visa);
       
    • if you enrol in an English-taught programme: a proof of having sufficient knowledge of the English language. You can prove your language skills by submitting one of the following documents:
       
      • a certificate of graduation ASO (Flemish candidate-students) or VWO (Dutch candidate-students);
      • a certificate of at least one successfully completed year in English-language secondary education;
      • a pass certificate in a or in one or more courses in English language higher education, with a total study load of at least 60 credits;
      • a language certificate (CEFR level B2).
    • if you enrol in an Dutch-taught programme: a proof of having sufficient knowledge of the Dutch language. You can prove your language proficiency by submitting one of the following documents:
       
      • a certificate of at least one successfully completed year in Dutch-language secondary education;
      • a pass certificate in a programme or in one or more courses in Dutch-language higher education, with a total study load of at least 60 credits;
      • a pass certificate (CEFR level B2) for:
        • the Interuniversity Dutch Language Test for Foreign Language Speakers (‘Interuniversitaire Taaltest Nederlands voor Anderstaligen – ITNA’);
        • the Dutch state examination NT2 II;
        • a Dutch language test from a centre for adult education or a recognised language centre.

    Uploading the documents

    You can upload all relevant documents during your registation for the entrance exam. Please do this as soon as possible so we can process your registration and let you know if you meet all the conditions for enrolment.

  • Study contract

    NEW ENROLLMENT

    STEP 1                                                                                                                                                         
    You fill in the google form to confirm your enrolment. The link for this will be sent to you by e-mail with further information about your enrolment.

    STEP 2
    Upload the following documents to your account in your webregistration (blue button 'documents')

    - Copy ID
    - Copy of diploma
    - Copy language certificate (submission possible until 31/10)
    - Copy D visa (NOT EU)
    - Copy APS certificate (China)

    STEP 3
    You can now complete your study programme by registering again at http://inschrijven.ap.be and selecting the 'Compile study programme' button. 

    Would you like to apply for a personal trajectory or exemptions ?
    More information about this at Tab > ADDITIONAL INFORMATION > Individual study route & exemptions
    You need to permanently save your programme.
    You will then also be able to digitally sign your programme.
    (exception pre Masters > they receive a personal email with account and login and then complete their programme via iBaMaFlex)

    Once you have completed these steps, you will also be able to request a provisional registration certificate.

    STEP 4
    After you have digitally signed your study programme, you will automatically receive your AP account login details. 
    This will give you access to our digital platforms such as; Intranet, Digitap and Ibamaflex.
    > timetable, useful information regarding your department, e-postbox, online classes, study programme, etc...

    We will handle your enrolment further administratively and request any missing documents.

    As soon as all documents have been verified, you will receive your study contract and public transport certificate in your e-postbox on iBaMaFlex.
    You will also have to sign this digitally.

    STEP 5
    The head office of AP will draw up an invoice and send it to you by post or e-mail. Once this amount has been paid in full, you are definitively enrolled.

    2. POSTPONED ENROLLMENT

    A year ago, you passed your artistic entrance exam BA in the Visual Arts and informed us that you would like to start your studies this year. Super!
    The score of your admission test from 2022 is still valid this year, so you don't have to take it again. This year we are working with digital enrolments, that is why you first need to submit a web registration via the link below: 
    https://inschrijven.ap.be > New registration.

    At Step 1 you need to select the following option:
    Pretest: None because you have already passed the entrance examination in 2022

    Once you have submitted a new webregistration and we have sent you a confirmation email. Just like a new enrolment, you will have to follow the steps above with the exception of step 1.

    3. RE-ENROLLMENT

    Students who re-enroll can complete and sign their study contract in iBaMaFlex.

     

  • Study fees

    The payment of the study fee is one of the enrolment conditions. When enrolling or re-enrolling, you sign a study contract. The study fee is due as soon as you sign your study contract.

    How much you pay each academic year for your study fees depends on a number of factors, including:

    • Your fee status: Belgium/European Economic Area (EEA)
      EEA = EU + Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein
    • Your programme
    • Additional costs

    To find a breakdown of the study fees you can expect, consult the regulations for the tuition fees, study costs and various expenses

    To give you an indication of the amount of the study fee, you can find below an example for a programme of 60 credits.

    • A student from within the EEA enrolling for 60 credits with a diploma contract pays 1336 euro:
           288 euro fixed part of the tuition fee +
           828 euro (13,8 euro variable part of the tuition fee x 60 credits) +
           220  euro course related fees
           Total: 1336 euro.

     

    • A student from outside the EEA enrolling for 60 credits with a diploma contract pays 8534,9 euro:
            904,9 euro fixed part of the tuition fee +
            7410 euro (123,5 euro variable part of the tuition fee x 60 credits) +
            220 euro course related fees
           Total: 8534,9 euro.

    The following students pay extra fees:

    • Fashion and Graphic Design students pay a deposit of 25 euro for the badge that grants them access to their campus.
    • Fashion students pay 250 euro extra to participate at the Fashion show in June.

    Paying your study fees

    Study fees are paid in full at the start of the academic semester.
    After signing your contract, you will receive an invoice on your school e-mail address to pay for the study fee. You can pay by card or by bank transfer. No cash payment is accepted

    You must use your student number + first name & last name as the reference for your bank transfer so we know who the payment is for.
    You must pay the full amount of fees for the new academic year in one instalment.

    Other costs

    A student must have sufficient means of subsistence to cover all study, living and healthcare costs, including potential repatriation costs.
    Besides the tuition fee and cost for flights and visa, students need in general approximately 9.000 euro per year:

    • Housing: student room (rent, electricity, water and internet): +/- 450 euro/month
    • Meals: +/- 10 euro/day or +/- 300 euro/month
    • Transportation and travel: bus/tram/metro: buzzy Pazz De Lijn +/- 212 euro/year; bicycle: Velo +/- 49 euro/year.
  • Student card and certificates
    If you have signed your study contract and payed your study fees, you can pick up your student card at the student administration office. You can also request a registration certificate.

  • Individual study route & exemptions

    Individual study route

    You can choose to follow a different study route than the traditional study route of 60 credits. In this case you will have to apply for an individual study route.  After approval by the admissions committee, your individual study route will be recorded in your study contract.

    Applying for an individual study route
    You should officially apply for an individual programme as soon as possible and the latest 
    before 15 October.

    Exemptions

    If you already have a higher education diploma or you followed a higher education course, you may be entitled to exemptions. You can obtain exemptions by proving that you obtained a credit certificate in your previous study that corresponds to the content of a specific course in your new study. Exemptions may be granted based on one or more study certificates or a certificate of aptitude obtained elsewhere.

    Applying for exemptions
    You should officially apply for exemptions as soon as possible and the latest 
    before 15 October.

    To apply for transfer of credits follow the steps described below.

    Step 1. Enroll
    Before asking for exemptions, you should first:

    • enroll (for new students)
      or
    • re-enroll via iBamaflex (for students who already studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp last year).

    Step 2. Gather the necessary documents
    Gather the documents required to support your application for exemptions. 
    For the transfer of credits you need to deliver:

    • a proof of your study results and
    • information from the study guide, regarding the course.

    Step 3. Log on to your web registration and select “Apply for Exemptions”
    You will be guided step by step through the exemptions module. Here you will also have to upload the necessary proof.

    Step 4. Your application reaches the study path advisor.
    In case of any missing information you will be contacted, after which your application appears before the Admission Board.

    Step 5. You receive a message saying wether or not your application is approved.

    If necessary, you can make an appointment with the study path advisor in question. (see application for individual study route)
     

  • Residence card

    Are you an international student who wants to study at the Academy?
    Bear in mind that you need to apply for a residence permit.
    Depending on your country of residence, you need to follow a different procedure.

  • Students with specific needs

    If you have specific needs you can request facilitating measures.

     

    You can request facilitating measures if you:

    • have a (learning) disability (dyslexia, dyscalculia, autism spectrum disorder, adhd, a motor, visual or aural disability …);

    • suffer from a medical or psychological problem;
    • combine top sport / work / family with studying.

    The student counselor David De Roey (david.deroey@ap.be) will assist you in applying for facilitating measures to meet your individual needs.

    Do you want to apply for facilitating measures? Do this as soon as possible and before 15 October.

  • Learning account

    The learning account is applicable to each student who enrols in a University College or University in Flanders. With this tool the Government aims to encourage you to make the right study choice and monitor your study progress.

    Principle
    Every student starting higher education in Flanders receives a learning account of 140 study credits. Study credits are deducted from your learning account for each subject you enrol for. If you pass your exam you earn back your credits. If you fail your exam, the study credits are irrevocably deducted from your learning account. If you don't have any credits left in your learning account you can no longer continue your studies.

    You can check the balance of your learning account on https://studentenportaal.vlaanderen.be/ (website in Dutch only).

    Example
    If you enrol for a subject of 6 study credits, then those 6 study credits will be deducted form your learning account. If you pass your exam with at least 10/20 then those 6 credits will be added again to your learning acount. If you fail, the 6 credits will be irrevocably deducted.

    Bonus
    The first 60 credits you obtain under diploma contract in higher education in Flanders are doubled. Those 60 credits don't need to be earned in one academic year, one study programme or one institution.

    For whom?
    The learning account applies to any student who enrols with a diploma contract or credit contract for a bachelor or master programme. It does not apply to students who enrol for a teaching qualification programme, for a bridging or preparatory programme or for a postgraduate programme. Also enrolments with an exam contract are not taken into account.

    Goal
    The learning account aims to encourage you as a student to make the right study choice and to encourage you to change your study programme in time.

    Made the wrong choice?
    Is your study not running so smoothly as you expected or do your realise that you made the wrong choice? Then you should make an appointment with your student counselor. You can withdraw or choose a new programme. This way you do not unnecessarily lose credits from your learning account. The quicker you decide, the more chance you have to gain back your credits.

    Already obtained a master's degree?
    ­The balance of your learning account is reduced by 140 credits when you obtain a diploma for a master programme. If this results in a positive balance, you can use the remaining credits to enrol in an initial bachelor or master programme. If the balance of your learning account is less than 60 credits, you can build it up again to a maximum of 60. Ten credits are added to your learning account every academic year after you obtained your master diploma.

  • Financial support

    Higher education studies are not cheap

    There are a number of facilities that help you fund your studies:

    1. International scholarships

    2. Scholarships from the Flemish Community

    In order to receive a scholarship from the Flemish Community, you must fulfill multiple conditions. If you are temporarily staying in Belgium because of your studies, national conditions will be an obstacle and you might not be eligible to request this scholarship.

    If you do not meet the requirements, you will have to fund your studies yourself and (if possible) apply for financial assistance and/or study aid in your home country.

    3. Financial aid from the AP University College

    Only students from within the European Economic Area are eligible for financial aid from the AP University College, and this if they meet certain conditions.

    Education and Examination Regulations

    The Education and Examination Regulations lay down the rules relating to education, examinations and the student’s legal status at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp.
    The Education and Examination Regulations provide information on admission requirements for studies, enrolment, various types of study contracts, exemption applications, taking part in examinations, conditions to pass a study, the academic calendar, etc.
