Gastarbajter's Journey Through Poetic Possibilities is an interdisciplinary audio-visual performance in four acts, which addresses the figure of 'Gastarbajter'.
'Gastarbajter' (germ. Gastarbeiter) is a cultural identity characterized by the feeling of not belonging anywhere to the fullest, not to the motherland and nor to the land of immigration. It’s a phenomenon that can be only understood in-between there and here. The source for the ideation and creation of this artwork is the collection of un-poetic poems
"Gastarbajter’s guide through poetic possibilities” was written by the visual artist Tijana Petrovic. This dramaturgic narration, inspired by interrupted voices and storytelling, explores the approach of socially engaged poetry on a musical and visual way. The synopsis follows the representation of the journey from the motherland to the land of immigration, from the comfortable position to dispersion, from confidence to self-marginalization to reparation.
This work searches for a transmedia approach that can merge different artistic practices through this radical topic, avoiding illustrative narration and overexposure.
