The Lange Zaal ('The Long Hall) was built in the 19th century as part of the academy museum. In the middle of the last century she was modernized to meet the needs of temporary exhibitions. From the 1nineteensixties to the nineteeneighties, many prestigious exhibitions took place, often in collaboration with local as well as foreign organizations. At that time the hall was an important location in the Antwerp and Flemish art scene.
For several years now this prestigious exhibition space, with its beautiful entrance on the Venusstraat, has taken up its original function as a public display. In addition to group exhibitions (often in collaboration with external partners or guest curators), solo exhibitions also take place. The space is also used for the presentation of artistic research. The auditorium that annexes the large hall, lends itself perfectly to cultural events such as concerts, performances or art book fairs, whether or not linked to project weeks, research days and symposiums.
