Kobe Van Cauwenberghe

Kobe Van Cauwenberghe is a guitarist, improviser, conductor and researcher. After completing his studies in the Manhattan School of Music in New York City, he spent three years in Paris before establishing himself in Brussels. He is a founding member of the electric guitar quartet Zwerm and an active soloist. As a sought-after freelance guitarist, Kobe has performed with numerous groups and ensembles across Belgium, France, the UK, the US, and beyond. Kobe holds a PhD in the Arts from the University of Antwerp, with a research centered on the music of Anthony Braxton. This resulted in the highly praised studio albums Ghost Trance Solos (2020) and Ghost Trance Septet plays Anthony Braxton (2022) as well as leading performances of Braxton’s work with esteemed ensembles such as the Ictus Ensemble, Rosas Dance Company, the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra under Ilan Volkov, the Lucerne Contemporary Festival Orchestra, and Plus Minus Ensemble in London. Kobe is currently chair of the research group UP - Performance in Perspective at the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp.
